about

Our man Oscar Rocha displays some hype skills on EP opener Govinda Says which provides a touch (and a touch is all you ever need) of Balearic vibes - well, it is supposed to be summer. Sneaky little vocal tidbits and French Kiss style sexiness makes us wish - just for a brief moment - that Ibiza was still there, and hadn't sunk into the sea all those years ago.
Doubtingthomas - a man we've not seen for a little while at Metroline - make a welcome return, remixing Govinda Says. And it is great to have him back. There aren't many people who could get away with kidnapping Govinda, force-feeding her digitalis, and leaving her writhing on the floor at Tresor. But this guy might know Jesus, so...
Title track Okapi is as deep as a Buddhist in a mine shaft, but a hell of a lot better on the dancefloor. Surging pads wash over the kind of heavy beats that make grown men cry. The percussion is sparse, as it should be - focused, uncluttered Zen techno for the connoisseur.
For their rework of Okapi, fellow Mexican mind-man Fanfarrosa breaks out the echo-chamber big style. Keeping all of the original's no-frills approach and if anything stripping back a few layers to reveal a menacing growler that hisses and blurts with pent up energy. Un poquito paranoid, but muy impressivo, mi amigo.
The closing track is Shangelang, a freeform workout centered on some gorgeous resonant keys and defies easy categorization, using French-fried hi hats, submarine breaks and elastic bass business to create a disorientating but sublime sonic journey.
